Tangdong (TSU) is an interchange station on Guangzhou Metro Line 13 and Line 21. The station was opened in December 2017 with the opening of the first section of Line 13 to Changfeng Park. It will be served by future extensions from Dongche Station[to be expanded] into Chebanse, and then south along the east bank of the Tuo River past Xilong Village as part of Phase II of Line 13's extension into Nanyang District. The northwestern exit leads onto a new underground pedestrian shopping mall known as "Tang Express" beneath Wangjiang Road, while the northeast entrance leads up to Duanliu Street.
The subway station had been built alongside existing Duanliu Station, but with a design similar to Tianhe West Subway Station and Huahua Square Station in Foshan, it consists of two levels in an L shape beneath ground level, serving both above- and below-ground platforms with escalators and elevators connecting them. In addition, there are exits that connect directly to the street using vertical lifts。
A second elevator provides direct access between the two concourses, allowing passengers to circulate freely throughout the entire premises without having to walk all the way down one level in order to transfer to another line. In case of emergency, an additional escape tunnel with fire extinguishers at regular intervals connects this station to other stations on Lines 13 and 21 and serves as an air-raid shelter, providing occupants with sufficient space and conditions to wait out any attack, as well as enough supplies for several days.
In January 2018, Tang East station became the first station on the Guangzhou metro to introduce smart cards called "metro debit card", after successful trials on lines 4 和 5. With this system, users can simply touch their cards against sensors as they pass through turnstiles, eliminating the need to tap their card again when reaching their destination, thus saving time on large daily commutes. This trial project covers only passengers who travel no more than three times a day, and has a capacity of 2,000 users per station. If successful, this payment method will eventually replace
